Malayalam superstar Mohanlal kicked off shooting for the highly anticipated Drishyam 3 just as he’s about to receive India’s top film honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This third installment in the blockbuster Drishyam franchise promises more thrills from Mohanlal’s iconic character, Georgekutty.
Director Jeethu Joseph launched the film with a traditional puja ceremony at a law college near Kochi on Monday. Right after, Mohanlal heads to New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu will present him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award on Tuesday. It’s a huge milestone after his 40-year career in Indian cinema.
Jeethu Joseph shared details with the media before the launch. “Drishyam 3 dives into what happens next in Georgekutty’s life, four and a half years after the last events. That’s the heart of the story,” he said.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, who’s worked closely with Mohanlal on the Drishyam series, explained how they decided to make this sequel. “Fans loved the first two films so much that we knew Georgekutty’s story wasn’t over. We talked it out in depth with Jeethu before greenlighting Drishyam 3,” Perumbavoor noted.
The Drishyam movies have become legends in Malayalam cinema and beyond, thanks to their edge-of-your-seat suspense, clever plots, and Mohanlal’s powerful acting as Georgekutty. The original Drishyam hit theaters in 2013 and changed the game for suspense thrillers. Its 2021 sequel smashed records in cinemas and on streaming services like Amazon Prime Video.
Producers now aim to release Drishyam 3 in March 2026, and excitement is building fast among fans in India and internationally. With Mohanlal’s award ceremony happening at the same time, the Drishyam 3 launch feels like an extra celebration for one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars.
