Pankaj Tripathi on daughter Aashi’s stage debut: Watching her rehearse reminds me of my own early days
Mumbai, November 17 – Bollywood heart‑throb Pankaj Tripathi and his wife, Mridula Tripathi, are breaking into the world of theatre with their first production under the banner Roopkatha Rangmanch. The play, called Lailaaj, is a musical comedy that will debut on November 21‑23 at Mumbai’s Rangshila Theatre.
The story marks a special moment for the Tripathi family. Daughter Aashi Tripathi makes her stage debut in Lailaaj, and Pankaj shared his excitement about the occasion. “Seeing Aashi rehearse, hit bumps, and finally shine brings back memories of my own early days on stage,” he said. “It’s not just a milestone for us – it’s a reminder that every artist must love the process, and theatre is where that love grows.” He hopes audiences will welcome the family’s new play with the same warmth and curiosity that has always supported him.
Pankaj also reflected on why Roopkatha Rangmanch is more than a business venture. “Theatre shaped who I am today,” he explained. “The chaos of backstage, the borrowed costumes, the thrill of a live audience—all taught me patience, sincerity, and discipline. When Mridula and I created this banner, we wanted our first production to honor that legacy." Lailaaj is a modest tribute to theatre and to artists who find truth on stage.
The musical comedy is written, directed, and composed by Faiz Mohammed Khan, and will run for three nights at Rangshila Theatre on November 21, 22, and 23. Fans can expect a lively, heartfelt performance that blends humor, music, and the raw energy of live theatre.
