Mumbai – The veteran Indian actor Puneet Issar recently posted a touching tribute on his Instagram, celebrating more than 40‑years of friendship with fellow star Pankaj Dheer. The post came after Dheer’s sudden death on October 15, when he was 68 years old.
In the album of old photos from the classic TV series Mahabharat, Issar wrote about the unique bond they shared. “It has finally started to sink in,” he said. “My best friend, my brother, is no longer with us. It’s a huge loss for the family, the film fraternity, and fans alike,” he told followers. He added that while many artists meet and part ways, his friendship with Dheer remained “unbreakable” and “closer than family.”
Issar described himself and Dheer as “real men” who spoke plainly, stayed true to their values, and supported one another through ups and downs. He vowed that Dheer’s legacy would live on through his sons, Nikitin; his wife, Nita; daughter, Nitika; and the younger generation.
Pankaj Dheer is best known for his iconic portrayal of Karna in B. R. Chopra’s 1988 television epic Mahabharat. Dheer’s career spanned soap operas, films, and stage work, but his role as the loyal and tragic hero of Mahabharat remains his most celebrated. He had been battling cancer for several months before his passing.
The tribute has resonated across millions of fans who followed the two actors’ careers. With his heartfelt words, Puneet Issar honoured a friend whose on‑screen and off‑screen presence touched generations of viewers.
