Los Angeles: Hollywood’s blockbuster world is buzzing with fresh Mummy news. Universal Pictures is ready to bring back the 1990s‑era charm of the action‑adventure franchise with star‑reuniting lineup: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are expected to return as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan for a new Mummy film.
The project is currently shaped by director duo Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, who will film a script by David Coggeshall. Production will be led by franchise veteran Sean Daniel together with William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment.
Fraser and Weisz first met on screen in 1999’s “The Mummy”, and again in “The Mummy Returns” a couple of years later. Their on‑screen romance—initially reluctant partners, then a married couple with a teenage son—defeated ancient curses and captured audiences worldwide, pulling more than $400 million for the two originals.
The franchise itself has seen many revivals, from the 2002 spin‑off “The Scorpion King” starring Dwayne Johnson to 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.” Now, in 2025, fans hope the duo’s chemistry will re‑energise the brand once again.
Fraser recently celebrated a career resurgence with an Academy Award win for “The Whale.” He’s back on the awards circuit heading into “Rental Family,” a 2024 Searchlight release due in November. Weisz continues to dazzle, with television work on Prime Video’s “Dead Ringers” and a role in Marvel’s “Black Widow.”
If the new Mummy follows its predecessors’ success, it could become a blockbuster hit for Universal again. The movie’s release date will be announced soon, but Hollywood fans already have their eyes on Fraser and Weisz heading back into the world of Egyptian curses and adventure.
