Ranbir Kapoor to make his directorial debut soon, kickstarts writer’s room

Ranbir Kapoor turned 43 on Sunday and didn’t hold back when fans asked about his next big move in Bollywood. During a lively Instagram Live on his clothing brand Arks’ official page, the actor opened up about his dream of stepping behind the camera as a director.
One eager fan popped the question: "When are we getting RK the director?" Ranbir, known for hits like Barfi and Sanju, shared his excitement, saying he’s "dying to direct a movie." He revealed he’s already kicked things off by setting up a writer’s room to brainstorm fresh ideas. "I’m trying to inspire myself with the two ideas I have and starting to work on them," he added. "But it’s definitely on my to-do list in the next couple of years."
The session also turned nostalgic as Ranbir gave a shoutout to his mentor, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who sparked his passion for cinema. Ranbir got emotional talking about their upcoming reunion on the film Love and War. "It’s directed by Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and it stars one of my two favorite actors, Vicky Kaushal, and of course my super talented wife Alia Bhatt," he said. "Whatever I know about acting was seeded by him. He was a master then, and I’m working with him 18 years later—he’s an even bigger master today. So I’m very happy with that collaboration."
Fans might remember Ranbir’s Bollywood roots trace back to Bhansali. He started as an assistant on the 2005 drama Black, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji. His acting debut came in Bhansali’s 2007 romance Saawariya, where he shared the screen with Sonam Kapoor for her big break.
With Love and War on the horizon, Bollywood buffs are buzzing about what Ranbir’s directorial debut could bring next.
