Rishab Shetty, the star‑director of the hit film Kantara: Chapter 1, stopped in Bihar’s ancient Mundeshwari Temple on October 18 to thank the gods for the movie’s success.
Photographs from the visit show the actor‑filmmaker bowing in aarti and posing beside the shrine. He also took part in the coronation ceremony of Maa Mundeshwari, immersing himself in the temple’s sacred atmosphere.
A close friend told , “Mundeshwari is the world’s oldest temple. Kantara draws on an India‑rooted story, and the film also connects to Mata Chamundi. That’s why Rishab felt it was time to offer thanks.”
The Mundeshwari Devi Temple, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India since 1915, is believed to honor the goddess Durga and the god Shiva. It is claimed to be the oldest functioning Hindu temple in the world, and it sits in the heart of Bihar’s historic landscape.
Kantara itself is a mythological action film set in pre‑colonial coastal Karnataka. The story explores the ancient roots of the Buta Kola ritual, blending regional folklore, spirituality and high‑energy action. Rishab Shetty leads a team that includes music director B. Ajaneesh Loknath, cinematographer Arvind Kashyap, and production designer Vinesh Banglan.
The film, launched on October 2, is available in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, and English, reaching a broad audience across India and abroad. It follows the first Kantara (released in 2022) and digs deeper into the traditions and ancestral conflicts that sparked the original story.
Kantara: Chapter 1 stars Rishab alongside Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah, and it offers a powerful look at mankind’s connection to nature and the divine. The success of the prequel has reignited interest in both the film’s Indian folklore themes and ancient religious sites like the Mundeshwari Temple.
