FBI investigating after ICE vehicle allegedly rammed in Arizona traffic stop

The FBI has opened an investigation after a driver in Avondale, Arizona, allegedly rammed a vehicle carrying two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during an attempted traffic stop early Thursday morning. The incident began around 8 a.m. local time when ICE agents tried to pull over a suspect’s car.

According to local police, the driver refused to pull over and fled the scene. He then returned to a nearby residence in his vehicle and crashed into the ICE pickup that had the officers inside. The attack left the ICE officers injured, but officials have not yet released details about injuries or whether anyone was arrested.

FBI agents are leading the probe, and they said the findings will be forwarded to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona to decide on possible charges. Avondale Police confirmed the case was transferred to federal authorities.

The incident comes after another similar ramming event in San Diego this week. ICE reported that a man who is believed to be in the U.S. illegally drove his SUV at a federal officer’s vehicle to avoid arrest, injuring three officers. The driver was described by a local witness as showing “blatant disregard for human life and the rule of the law.”

Officials have not yet identified the suspect. The FBI will determine whether criminal charges are appropriate after completing its investigation.
