Rosie O’Donnell recently opened up about Keanu Reeves being one of the toughest celebrities to interview on her former daytime talk show. On the “Sam Pang Tonight” podcast she explained why the famed Hollywood actor—known for “The Matrix,” “John Wick” and a long‑running fan base—has a reputation for staying quiet during live interviews.

During her early career O’Donnell hosted the “Rosie O’Donnell Show” from 1996 to 2002, a hit daytime program that drew many big names. In 1997, Reeves appeared for a sit‑down that became the talk of the internet. O’Donnell said she loved the gentle star, adding, “I love the guy. He’s so sweet, he looks gorgeous, and I’m a fan of all his movies.” Yet the actor often answered questions with a single word.

“I’d say, ‘So, Keanu, how’s it going? How are you feeling?’, and he’d respond ‘Good.’ We were live. We couldn’t re‑tap,” O’Donnell remembered. She added, “After three minutes I finally said, ‘You know, Keanu, it’s a talk show. You have to talk.’”

The actress clarified that she didn’t intend to “throw him under the bus.” Instead, she emphasized that Reeves is a “lovely man and a good‑hearted guy.” Reeves returned to her show in 2001, and by then O’Donnell noted he had “got the hang of it.”

When Reeves laughed at a question earlier on the program, O’Donnell jokingly reminded him, “Sorry, but it’s a talk show. We’ve got to ask questions.” She later suggested a snack or a toy to help him relax, and YouTube viewers praised her for easing the actor’s nerves during the rest of their 10‑minute chat. One viewer wrote, “I like how she changed her strategy after knowing Keanu was uncomfortable with those kinds of questions.”

In addition to Reeves, O’Donnell highlighted other memorable guests. She declared comedian Martin Short the best interviewee she ever had on the show and named Barbra Streisand as her personal favorite.

Reeves’ representatives have not yet responded to inquiries from the site. Still, O’Donnell’s candid remarks on “Sam Pang Tonight” have sparked conversation about the challenges celebrities face when asked to talk about themselves on television and how hosts can adapt their approach.
