Saif Ali Khan’s sister Saba Pataudi recently shared a touching story about their father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and the life-changing car accident that hit him back in 1961. Known as Tiger Pataudi, the legendary Indian cricketer lost sight in his right eye during that crash, but it never stopped him from shining on the field.

Saba posted on her Instagram Story, reflecting on the “what ifs” with the words: “To think if this had not happened, what might have been…” The accident happened on July 1, 1961, right after Tiger Pataudi played a match for Oxford University against Sussex at Hove. He and four teammates headed out for some Chinese food, but on the drive back, their car smashed into trouble. Reports say a splinter shot through the windscreen and straight into his eye, landing him in the hospital.

Despite the huge setback, Tiger Pataudi adapted quickly and kept dominating cricket. He set impressive records and even captained the Indian cricket team, leading the Men in Blue to glory. His resilience turned a tragedy into an inspiring tale that still motivates fans today.

The post came on Monday, which marked the death anniversary of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. His other daughter, actress Soha Ali Khan, also honored her dad by looking back at his proudest moments—like becoming India’s youngest Test captain. She shared how he brought joy to their family and the whole nation through his cricket legacy.

Soha uploaded old photos of her father on Instagram, captioning them simply: “Today and always My Abba.” She added a sweet handwritten note from her younger days that read: “To Mr Tiger Happy Barsie! I love you..You are very funny, joyful, cool, and you have a big heart.”

To top it off, Soha shared a vintage video clip of Tiger Pataudi’s interview just before he took on the captain’s role. The text overlay noted: “Eve of 1974-75 WI series.” It’s a reminder of the unbreakable spirit that made Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi a true icon in Indian cricket history.
