Berlin, Dec 2 (LatestNewsX) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned that Germany would not accept a “dictated peace” over Ukraine’s head.
The comments came during a joint press conference with visiting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Berlin, reported by Xinhua news agecny.
Merz emphasized that “No decision about Ukraine and Europe without Ukrainians and without Europeans,” and added that Germany and its allies intend to keep backing Ukraine while pushing Moscow back to the negotiating table.
He pointed out that talks held in Geneva had led to tentative progress on a peace framework, noting that Germany maintains regular contact with Ukraine and the United States at the advisory level.
Prime Minister Tusk likewise voiced support for Ukraine, highlighting joint Polish–German efforts to bolster European security.
Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that Europe must also be on the negotiating table, reflecting on a potential peace deal in Ukraine.
A U.S.‑proposed 28‑point “peace plan” was released two weeks ago. Shortly after, officials from the United States, Ukraine and several European states met in Geneva on Nov 23 to discuss the proposal.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Witkoff met on Sunday with a Ukrainian delegation in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow on Tuesday to talk about ending the conflict with Ukraine.
