Mumbai, Oct 26 – Veteran actress Shabana Azmi shared a heartfelt tribute to the late actor Satish Shah on Instagram, sparking a wave of nostalgic comments from fans and colleagues alike.
In the post, Shabana posted a photograph from a get‑together with Satish that was taken a couple of years ago for Roopa Shaikh’s birthday. She remembered that the two of them had been college buddies and often ran into each other at the homes of mutual friends, laughing and joking as always.
“Always full of beans, pulling a fast one and a jovial soul,” she wrote. “Gone too soon. Farouque Shaikh and he were a team … Bichde sabhi baari baari.” The phrase, a playful reference to one of Satish’s popular comedy roles, underlined how much the loss touched those who knew him.
Satish Shah, best remembered for his role as the mischievous Wajahat Khan in the cult‑hit sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, died after a battle with illness earlier this year. He was 77, a seasoned character actor who had appeared in over 200 films and television shows.
The actor’s funeral took place on Sunday at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle West, Mumbai. Dalip Tahil, a longtime friend and fellow actor, spoke to the media during the ceremony.
“It’s a very sad day,” Tahil said. “Since our career started, he has been with us. When I came to Mumbai for the first time in the 60s, Satish was in theatre; we were there together. I’ve known him for a long time, I’ve enjoyed a lot with him. He was a fantastic person.” He added that Satish had been a bright, positive presence in the industry, and that he had not been able to speak with him before his passing, as he had been recovering from a kidney transplant.
Tahil also expressed his sorrow about the untimely loss, wishing peace for Satish’s soul and noting that he was unable to call him in consultation with his doctor.
The funeral service was attended by many in the Bollywood community, who paid tribute to Satish Shah’s legacy. Fans remembered him as a versatile comedian, a memorable figure in Indian television and cinema.
On social media, Shabana‑Azmi’s post continued to inspire heartfelt replies, reaffirming Satish Shah’s place in the hearts of those who grew up watching his comedy. The iconic actor’s contributions to Hindi entertainment—especially through Sarabhai vs Sarabhai—now echo in the mourning of his film colleagues and the millions of viewers who followed his work.
