Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal shared her heartbreak over the sudden death of legendary Assamese artist Zubeen Garg, who passed away at 52 in a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore.
In an emotional Instagram post, Shreya called Zubeen an “iconic artist” and a “beautiful human being.” She wrote, “Truly devastated with the news Zubeen Garg! An iconic artist of our country, the mega star and a beautiful human being. I have always been a fan of his artistry, his voice.”
Shreya also reflected on their collaboration, adding, “Had the greatest fortune of working with him on a few iconic Assamese songs. Rest in peace Zubeen dada.”
Fellow singer Armaan Malik honored Zubeen with a touching tribute, posting a video of himself singing one of Zubeen’s popular tracks, “Mayabini Ratir Bukut.” Armaan explained that he always performed the song during visits to Assam to pay homage to Zubeen.
“Every visit to the beautiful state of Assam, I never failed to sing this song and dedicate it to the one and only Zubeen Garg,” Armaan captioned the video. “Today, singing it feels heavier than ever. Can’t believe he is no more and it breaks my heart that I never got the chance to truly know him properly, a wish that will forever remain unfulfilled. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and every soul who found life in his music.”
He concluded, “Rest in peace Zubeen da.. a legend gone too soon. Your beautiful voice will echo in our hearts forever.”
Zubeen Garg’s passing has sparked tributes from many in the Indian film and music industry. The beloved Assamese singer died after a scuba diving mishap. Singapore police rescued him from the water and rushed him to a hospital, but doctors couldn’t save him.
