Mumbai, Dec 5 – Shreya Ghoshal reflected on a treasured moment from her life when she recalled meeting the late icon Lata Mangeshkar. On Instagram, the singer posted a photo of herself beside the legendary vocalist and captioned it, “Thinking about the time I got the privilege of meeting Lata didi. Goddess in white saree as I fondly remember her,” marking the encounter as a true privilege.
Lata Mangeshkar, often called the “Queen of Melody,” left an indelible mark on Indian music, singing in more than thirty‑six languages, with a core focus on Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. Her illustrious career earned her the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1989), the Bharat Ratna (2001), and three National Film Awards. She also held the Guinness World Record for the most recorded artist until it was eclipsed by her sister Asha Bhosle. Lata passed away on 6 February 2022 at 92, following a protracted battle with pneumonia and COVID‑19.
Shreya Ghoshal is celebrated for her expansive vocal range and adaptability, often referred to as the “Queen of Dynamics.” She has recorded for films and albums across India and abroad, garnering several honors, including five National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, and recognitions from Maharashtra, Telangana, and BFJA. Her debut tracks “Bairi Piya” and “Dola Re Dola” earned her the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer, and she went on to receive an additional four National Awards for songs such as “Dheere Jalna,” “Yeh Ishq Haaye,” “Pherari Mon,” “Jeev Rangla,” and “Maayava Thooyava.”
