Mumbai, Oct 16 – Mumbai’s film scene buzzes as actress Shriya Pilgaonkar and acclaimed filmmaker Pan Nalin join the jury of the 6th All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF). The festival will open on December 4 and run for 11 days, wrapping up on December 14.
Why the duo is excited
When asked why she agreed to sit on the jury, Pilgaonkar said: “For artists, cinema is a way to bring people together. ALT EFF shows how that power can raise awareness and spark real change. The environment isn’t a distant buzzword – it touches our health, our homes, and our future.” She added that watching the festival’s lineup has been “learning and humbling.”
Nalin, known for Samsara and The Last Film Show, explained his interest: “The environment has always inspired my stories, from the deserts of Kutch to the Himalayas. ALT EFF is more than a festival; it’s a movement that rekindles our bond with the planet.” He hopes the event will challenge viewers to slow down, see clearly, and remember what we risk if we ignore nature.
What the festival offers
ALT EFF showcases international and Indian feature films, documentaries, shorts, and student projects. Themes include sustainability, climate change, preservation, and ecological awareness. The festival’s decentralized model and new “watch parties” bring stories into homes and community spaces, making the conversation personal and actionable.
Kunal Khanna, festival founder, emphasized that over six years, films have united audiences around the truth that caring for our planet is essential. “Our watch parties bring the message straight to people who can make a daily impact,” he noted.
Anaka Kaundinya, programming director, highlighted the lineup’s balance of global and local voices. “We aim to address climate anxiety and innovation, showing the full spectrum of humanity’s connection to nature,” she said.
