Shweta Basu Prasad said being chosen first for her role in Maharani 4 felt like a major honor. “When creator Subhash Kapoor told me he had Roshni in mind right from the start, it meant the world,” she told reporters in Mumbai.
She added that working before a character even existed felt rare.
On set, Shweta fit in quickly. She and Huma Qureshi were almost instant friends, and they joked about “plotting” together whenever they met with Kani Kusruti. The trio’s chemistry helped lift the show’s energy.
The new season also welcomes Rajeshwari Sachdev and Darsheel Safary. Maharani 4 is directed by Puneet Prakash and produced by Kangra Talkies Pvt. Ltd., with Subhash Kapoor at the helm. The series stars Huma Qureshi, Shweta Basu Prasad, Vipin Sharma, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, Shardul Bhardwaj, Kani Kusruti and Pramod Pathak.
Past seasons traced Huma’s rise from a political outsider to a savvy leader in Bihar’s cut‑throat corridors. The drama blends real‑world politics with gripping storytelling. The first season covers 1995‑1999, drawing on the rise of Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, the Ranvir Sena and events like the 1997 Laxmanpur‑Bathe massacre. Season 2 follows 1999‑2000, inspired by the Shilpi‑Gautam murder, the 2000 Bihar election, and figures such as Shibu Soren. Season 3 adds episodes linked to Jitan Manjhi and other real‑life incidents.
Maharani 4 will stream on Sony LIV starting November 7.
