Mumbai, Oct 7 – Shweta Tripathi has officially begun shooting the film version of the hit series Mirzapur in the historic city of Benares. She’ll reprise her popular role as Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta, the fierce, fearless sidekick of the series’ gang‑land king.

A Homecoming for Golu

When the actress spoke to , she said the return feels like seeing an old friend. “Coming back as Golu is like re‑meeting someone who has watched me grow, stumble and rise again,” she told them. “Benares gives every story a deeper life—there’s a place for old memories and new ones right here.”

Far from a bizarre twist, the trip to Benares marks a full circle for Shweta. The city has worked its magic on her career—from her role in Masaan to the gritty world of Mirzapur. “Now I’m back for the movie version, and it feels like a completed chapter,” she added.

The Film: Mirzapur Goes to the Big Screen

Mirzapur is one of India’s most‑watched crime‑thriller series, set in the border town of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. The original show follows Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi), the local crime boss who runs the district with an iron fist.

The first season introduced a strong ensemble, with stars like Ali Fazal, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. The second season kept most of the original cast (minus Massey and Pilgaonkar) and added new faces such as Vijay Varma and Isha Talwar.

The show was filmed across Uttar Pradesh’s heartland—Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Lucknow, Raebareli, Gorakhpur and Benares—creating an authentic backdrop for the brutal drama.

From Television to Cinema

Shweta’s last on‑screen appearance was the comedy film Kanjoos Makhichoos, directed by Vipul Mehta. The movie, adapted from the Gujarati play Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo, features Kunal Kemmu, Piyush Mishra, Alka Amin, Rajeev Gupta and Raju Srivastava.

Now she’s tackling a new challenge: bringing the raw, high‑octane world of Mirzapur to theaters. “Golu’s world has changed, and so have I, but the fire she carries inside remains,” she said. “I can’t wait for audiences to see it on the big screen.”

With Mirzapur’s first film adaptation set to hit theaters soon, fans of the series, Bollywood watchers and lovers of crime thrillers have a lot to look forward to. Stay tuned for more updates on the shoot and the upcoming release date.
