Ireland’s rising star Orla Prendergast has won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for August 2025. The 23-year-old all-rounder beat tough rivals like Netherlands’ Iris Zwilling and Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali to grab this top honor, as announced on the ICC’s official website.
Prendergast shone bright in Ireland’s T20I series against Pakistan last month, helping her team secure a thrilling 2-1 victory. She topped the run charts with 144 runs in just three innings, smashing two quick half-centuries. On the bowling front, she grabbed four wickets, making her the standout performer and earning her the Player of the Series title.
“I’m thrilled to get this ICC Women’s Player of the Month award,” Prendergast said. “A big thanks to the ICC and everyone who voted for me. I also want to shout out my teammates and support staff—they worked super hard all summer to win key series.”
She highlighted the T20I triumph over Pakistan as the summer’s big moment. Ireland also nailed T20I and ODI series wins against Zimbabwe and swept the European T20 Qualifiers. “We’re excited to carry this momentum into our winter tours and the Global T20 Qualifiers in January,” she added.
Prendergast praised the ICC for boosting women’s cricket worldwide. “This award means everything to me—it proves I made the right call five years ago to chase cricket full-time. Back then, it wasn’t even an option for girls like me. Now, young fans can watch women’s cricket live, on TV, or online, which sparks more interest and players. Awards like this show how the women’s game is growing globally. Thanks to the ICC for supporting women cricketers everywhere.”
Her form didn’t stop there. Prendergast played a key role in Ireland’s push for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, adding 100 more runs and three wickets in the Europe Qualifier to lock in their spot at the Global Qualifier. What a month for this talented all-rounder!
