Los Angeles, Oct 26 – Hollywood actor Simu Liu shared how hard it was to perform his own stunts on the set of the new espionage thriller “The Copenhagen Test.”
The 36‑year‑old star, best known for his Marvel role in Shang‑Chi, plays a Chinese‑American intelligence analyst who finds himself stuck between his mysterious agency and a group of unknown hackers.
During an interview with People, Liu admitted that he was “kicked in the face… many, many times.” He explained how even with highly skilled stunt coordinators—James and Chris Mark—trying to keep the set “as safe as possible,” a little risk is inevitable in fight scenes. “When you’re running full speed through a hallway, blasting through people, things are bound to go wrong,” he said.
He recounted a few moments on set: a hard kick, a thrown toss against a wall, and other physical mishaps. While some actors opt for stunt doubles to avoid injuries, Liu said that can frustrate editors. “There are angles you can’t shoot without a double,” he noted. “It ends up limiting how the story looks on screen.”
“Doing my own stunts gives the editor much more flexibility. You can cut wherever you want,” he added.
Liu insists he embraces the challenge of action work. “I’m a competitive guy,” he said. “When I’m four, I’d see someone do something and say, ‘I could do that too.’ That drive has stuck with me.”
Fans and viewers are already noticing the added realism in The Copenhagen Test, thanks to Liu’s commitment to doing his own stunts and the skill of the production team. The series, which blends tight political intrigue with high‑energy action, is set to hit streaming platforms later this month.
