Delhi – Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked Karwa Chauth at her home on Friday, inviting friends, family and a crowd of women, including popular singer Jaspinder Narula, to join the celebration.
Gupta guided the group through a full‑blown puja, then shared a lively dance and upbeat songs, turning the day into a communal feast of tradition and joy.
After the festivities, the chief minister posted a heartfelt video on X, wishing “all women across the country” a blessed Karwa Chauth. “It’s a holy occasion,” she said. “Women fast for their husbands. I extend greetings to every woman in India.”
The same day, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also praised the festival on X, calling it a “symbol of unbroken good fortune” and celebrating the “love, sacrifice, and unwavering faith” of women.
Karwa Chauth, a festival most widely observed by married women in North India, takes place on the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of the Hindu month of Kartik, the same day as Sankashti Chaturthi, a Ganesha fast. The tradition involves a nirjala fast—no food or water from sunrise to moonrise—performed for a husband’s wellbeing and longevity. The fast ends after the woman sees the moon, offers water to it, and prays for marital harmony.
The event at Gupta’s residence highlighted how Karwa Chauth remains a powerful cultural celebration, bringing together community, music, and faith.
