Mohit Suri’s Seven-Year Wait Pays Off with Saiyaara Success
Imagine waiting almost seven years for your dream project to see the light of day, facing rejection after rejection. That’s exactly what Bollywood filmmaker Mohit Suri did with his latest hit, Saiyaara. And now, acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap is singing his praises for that unbreakable determination.
In a recent chat with , Anurag shared how Mohit stuck to his vision despite tough odds. "Very few filmmakers hold onto their stories like Mohit did with Saiyaara," Anurag said. Producers turned him down left and right because they couldn’t see the potential. Mohit wanted to cast fresh faces and tell the story his way—no compromises. He suffered for six to seven years but never gave up. In Hindi, he put it simply: "Usko naye logon ke saath banani thi, jaise banani thi waise banani thi, lekin usne chhodi nahin picture."
The gamble worked wonders. Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, surprised everyone by becoming a blockbuster. It’s a shining example of how persistence can turn a risky idea into Bollywood success.
Anurag didn’t stop there. He opened up about the bigger challenges in the Indian film industry, especially why fresh stories often struggle to hit the screens. "There are plenty of new ideas out there," he explained. "Writers and directors are bursting with original concepts they want to bring to life. But the real hurdle? Producers. They call the shots on what will work and what won’t. They only chase surefire hits and shy away from anything fresh or nuanced."
This insight highlights a common Bollywood struggle: balancing creativity with commercial safety. Anurag’s words remind us that bold risks, like Mohit’s with Saiyaara, can lead to unexpected triumphs.
On a brighter note, Anurag is gearing up for his own exciting project. His upcoming crime drama Nishaanchi stars Aaishvary Thackeray in a double role as Babloo and Dabloo, with Vedika Pinto in a pivotal part. Fans can catch it in theaters on September 19—mark your calendars for this one!
