In a candid Instagram post, Indian actress Somy Ali expressed her frustration with how society treats poets. She said their talent often goes unnoticed while they’re alive, and people only recognize their worth after death.
Somy shared a video of herself and wrote, “One of the most beautiful Hindi songs ever. I wish I could translate it. It’s about the lack of dignity and respect society shows to poets. Their work is cherished only after they’re gone, and they never learn their own worth.” She urged people to keep creating even if the world doesn’t applaud, and to do what brings joy rather than chasing approval.
She mentioned a favorite track that reminds us of this truth. The song, originally voiced by legendary singer Kishore Kumar, celebrates a poet who stays true to himself. Somy said her childhood hero, Rajesh Khanna—often called “Kaka Ji”—lip‑syncs this song, and the film is a must‑watch with subtitles.
Somy recalls that she was just seven the first time she heard the track, and she cried thinking the singer was fading away. A decade later she acted in the film Mafia alongside actor Raza Murad. She even dubbed as the daughter of Reesha in the same movie, adding to the star‑studded cast.
Her film career includes notable roles in the early 1990s: Anth (1994), Yaar Gadar (1994), Andolan (1995) and Chupp (1997). Though she has grown on the silver screen, she remains passionate about poetry and the message that poets should feel respected in life, not just after they’re gone.
