The Assam police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken two personal security officers—Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya—into custody over the sudden death of famous singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore. The singers’ team had relied on these officers for years, and following a large‑sum bank transfer, the SIT moved quickly.

Chief of the SIT, Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed that the arrests happened today. The officers are now at the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court to be presented for questioning.

Zubeen Garg, who died on September 19, just a day before he was set to perform at the Northeast India Festival, has sparked a wider investigation. The SIT already has in its hands arrest warrants for the event’s main organizer, Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, a bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, a co‑singer, Amritprava Mahanta, and a cousin who is also a suspended Assam Police Service (APS) officer, Sandipan Garg. The Assam government has suspended Sandipan Garg following the SIT’s findings.

Garima Saikia, Zubeen’s wife, has spoken to the press, urging that the case not be turned into a political issue. “We’ve lost a legend. We want the truth fast,” she said. “If anyone saw anything, please come forward.” She also reminded people that the investigation remains in the hands of the police and judiciary, not the media.

The death’s early reports suggested a scuba‑diving accident. However, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has since claimed that Zubeen was poisoned in Singapore, saying the suicide story is a cover‑up. These allegations are now part of the official arrest documents the SIT has filed.

As the investigation unfolds, the SIT continues to question more suspects and trace financial trails. The case remains one of India’s most high‑profile entertainment mysteries, keeping fans and officials alike in suspense.
