Security forces in Manipur seized a large drug kit and arrested two accused sellers on October 10, 2025. The Manipur Police said the suspects were Md Khursid Alam, 21, from Lilong‑Litan, Makhong in Thoubal district, and Md Akbar, 37, from Khergao Awang Leikai in Imphal East district. Akbar was caught during a follow‑up raid after Alam’s arrest.
The police recovered about 3 kg of heroin, eight bottles of the psychotropic Tussrex‑TR syrup, and cash worth ₹9.57 million from the suspects. They also seized a SBBL gun, two cartridges, a four‑wheel vehicle, and four mobile phones. The raid was carried out by the state’s security forces and the police team posted a short video of the operation on its Twitter account.
Earlier in the month, the 36 Assam Rifles carried out a critical operation in the Songkot village area of the Henglep Sub‑Division, Churachandpur district. On October 2, the troops captured five members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA). The operatives were identified as Paolenlal Kipgen (30), Kamgoulen (23), Lhunkholen Singson (26), Thangzasuan (14), and Khaiginpau (37), all sons of former community leaders.
From the UKNA members, the soldiers seized a M79 grenade launcher with three bombs, two 9 mm pistols loaded with five rounds, eight radio sets with chargers, eight pairs of jungle shoes, three kilograms of opium seeds, and three mobile phones. The arrests triggered the filing of cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act. The accused were taken before a magistrate and held in police custody, while any juvenile suspects are being held at an observation home.
These operations demonstrate the state’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and insurgent activity in Manipur and surrounding districts.
