Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just snagged a big win at the Emmys, even after the show got canceled. Nearly two months post-cancellation, it took home the Outstanding Talk Series award on Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
The crowd went wild as Colbert stepped on stage, chanting “Stephen! Stephen! Stephen!” like true fans, according to People magazine. In his heartfelt acceptance speech, the 61-year-old host thanked CBS for letting him be part of the late-night TV tradition. “I hope it continues long after we’re no longer doing the show,” he said.
Colbert got personal, shouting out his “beautiful, brilliant wife Evelyn” as the real brains behind everything, plus their three kids—Madeline, Peter, and John. He wrapped up with a powerful line: “Sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it. In September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong, be brave—and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor!”
The win beat out tough competition from The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the Outstanding Talk Series category.
Remember, Colbert broke the news of the show’s end on July 17 during an episode. “Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending the Late Show in May,” he shared with viewers. This came right after he called out Paramount—CBS’s parent company—for their $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump on July 3.
Late-night TV fans are buzzing about this bittersweet Emmy victory for Stephen Colbert’s iconic show.
