Joseph Quinn will not return to the world of “Stranger Things.” The actor who made “Hellfire Club” fan‑favorite Eddie Munson a living legend in Season 4 is set to move on. The Duffer brothers confirmed that Quinn is gone forever, calling the actor’s status “dead” in a recent interview with Empire.
The news comes as “Stranger Things” heads into its final chapter. Quinn, who made a splash with a metal‑head horror‑style performance in Hawkins, was expected by many to make a surprise return. The series’ creators said there simply isn’t time for a comeback: “He’s been shooting five movies since, so how could he squeeze in another episode?” The cast and crew are no longer watching as Quinn looks back to the new projects that keep him busy.
Thriving after Tina
Since “Hellfire Club,” Quinn’s career has taken off. He’s part of the “Fantastic Four” reboot with Pedro Pascal, joined the “Gladiator II” ensemble, and will portray George Harrison in a forthcoming Beatles biopic. That film saga, directed by Sam Mendes and announced for an April 2028 release, will feature Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
In an interview with L’Officiel USA, Quinn said, “I’m not chasing any particular echelon of stardom. It’s about the opportunities that interest me, and I’m getting used to having a little more choice now.” The role of Eddie has become a marker of a trend: on “Stranger Things,” several short‑lived characters—Sean Astin and Dacre Montgomery, among them—made a brief, memorable impact before being written out.
The end of an era
The final season of “Stranger Things,” set to premiere on Netflix in three volumes (Nov 26, Dec 25, Dec 31), will be eight episodes long. It promises to end the decade‑long saga that began in 2016. Matt Duffer cited classic series finales—Six Feet Under, Friday Night Lights, The Sopranos—for inspiration, saying that the core ending idea had been in the air “for a really long time.”
Although viewers may debate the final scenes, the Duffer brothers have expressed pride in its outcome. They’re “nerve‑racking” to release it, believing fans will react sharply. As the screen lights dim on Season 5, the story of Hawkins, Indiana, finally comes to close—while Joe Quinn embarks on a new journey beyond Netflix.
