Mumbai, Oct. 15 – Bollywood actor Sunny Deol posted a tearful tribute on social media after learning that veteran star Pankaj Dheer had died. In a black‑and‑white photo from Dheer’s early career, the veteran shared a heartfelt note: “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of #PankajDheer ji. I knew him and was very close to him. He was a fine actor and an even finer human being. His contribution to cinema will always be remembered. My prayers are with his family. Om Shanti.”
Sun’s brother Bobby Deol was also the co‑star in the 1990s action film Soldier and has spoken publicly about the loss. “It’s an incredibly sad day for us,” Bobby said in a brief Instagram update.
Pankaj Dheer was best known for his powerful portrayal of King Karn in B.R. Chopra’s 1980s TV epic Mahabharat. The actor’s career spanned many popular films and television shows, earning him a loyal fan base and industry respect.
The news also moved Esha Deol, who shared a photo of her late uncle and wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Pankaj uncle. A dear family friend & a wonderful human being always full of joy. Will miss you & those fun conversations we had followed by your laughter. May your soul rest in peace. Pankaj Dheer’s mother, legendary actress Hema Malini, publicly honored him last week. He had been battling cancer, and his illness reportedly relapsed a few months before his death. He had also undergone major surgery as part of his treatment.
The veteran actor is survived by his wife Aneeta and his son Nikitin Dheer, who is also an actor, along with his daughter‑in‑law, actress Kratika Sengar.
