Exciting news for DC fans! Actor David Corenswet is all set to bring Superman back to the big screen, starring in the upcoming sequel to James Gunn’s hit superhero film. The new Superman movie is officially scheduled for release on July 9, 2027, less than two years from now.
Director James Gunn shared the update on social media, revealing the movie’s title: ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’. He also dropped a cool comic book-style image showing Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his powerful Warsuit. This hints that the film will continue to explore Lex Luthor’s rivalry with Superman.
In the comics, Lex Luthor builds a special suit to match Superman’s strength. According to reports, after a failed plan to use a Superman clone against him in the first movie, Luthor has decided to create his own suit to fight Superman directly. It looks like the sequel will dive deeper into this intense battle.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that James Gunn will return to write and direct the new Superman film. The first movie was a huge hit, earning over $611 million worldwide — making it the top superhero film of 2023.
This new Superman sequel will follow other DC movies coming in 2026, including the space-themed ‘Supergirl’ directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, and the horror-inspired ‘Clayface’ featuring stars like Naomi Ackie.
Notably, the Superman movie will hit theaters before Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’, which is set to release on October 1, 2027. Fans can look forward to more exciting adventures in the DC cinematic universe very soon!
