Tamil film actor Robo Shankar passes away; Kamal Haasan, Venkat Prabhu condole actor’s demise

The Tamil film industry is in deep mourning after the sudden death of popular actor and comedian Robo Shankar. The 46-year-old star, known for his hilarious roles in Tamil movies, passed away on Thursday evening while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.

Robo Shankar leaves behind his wife Priyanka and daughter Indraja, who made her acting debut opposite Vijay in the hit film Bigil. Fans remember him for his standout performances in films like Dhanush’s Maari, Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai, and Vishnu Vishal’s Vellainu Vandhutta Vellaikaran. His comedy brought laughter to millions, making him a beloved figure in Kollywood.

The shocking incident happened on Wednesday when Robo Shankar fainted on the sets during a shoot. Crew members quickly rushed him to the hospital, where doctors put him in the Intensive Care Unit. Sadly, he couldn’t recover and breathed his last around 8:30 pm on Thursday.

His body will be moved from the hospital to his residence on Friday, allowing fans and well-wishers to pay their final respects. The news has left the Tamil cinema world heartbroken, with tributes pouring in from stars and directors.

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan was one of the first to share his grief. He posted a touching Tamil poem on social media, like a heartfelt chat with Robo Shankar. In it, Kamal calls him his "younger brother" beyond the "Robo" nickname and says his spirit lives on. "You’ve finished your work and left, but mine isn’t done yet. Tomorrow is ours," the poem ends, capturing the bond they shared.

Director Venkat Prabhu also took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his sorrow: "#RIProboshankar gone too soon my friend. Deepest condolences to family and friends."

Robo Shankar’s untimely demise has sparked an outpouring of love online, with fans sharing memories of his funny antics and versatile roles. The Kollywood community continues to rally in support of his family during this tough time.
