To honor Deb Mukherjee’s vision, the family plans to amp up the grandeur. They’re boosting social media presence to draw more crowds and aim to serve food to a larger number of people during the festivities—something he always wanted.

Deb Mukherjee, who passed away on March 14 at age 83, was a key figure in Bollywood’s Mukherjee clan. He was the father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and uncle to stars Kajol and Rani Mukerji. His mother, Satidevi, was the sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. Deb’s brothers included actor Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee.

The veteran actor married twice. From his first marriage, he had daughter Sunita, who’s wed to director Ashutosh Gowariker. Ayan came from his second marriage. Deb’s final screen role was a cameo in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2009 hit “Kaminey,” starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.
