Actress Tanishaa Mukerji is diving headfirst into the vibrant Durga Puja celebrations in Mumbai this year, just like she does every year. The Bollywood star shared her heartfelt thoughts with , revealing how the festival hits close to home amid recent family losses.
Dressed in a stunning traditional white Bengali saree, Tanishaa opened up about the deep emotions stirring inside her on this special Ashtami day. “Today feels like my father is right here at the puja,” she said, her voice full of warmth and nostalgia. Her late father adored Durga Puja, and these moments bring back floods of happy memories. She also honored her uncle, Debu Kaka, who passed away just a few months ago. “I sense him with me in this very pandal—it’s incredibly emotional,” Tanishaa added.
To make the day even more personal, she wore her grandmother’s garland woven into her hair. “My mom always picks out sarees for me each year, and this one’s a classic Bengali style,” she explained. Tanishaa loves slipping into sarees, and this outfit keeps her connected to her roots.
The Mukerji family’s Durga Puja tradition runs deep. Tanishaa’s grandmother kicked it off years ago, and now it’s grown into a massive event that draws crowds from all over. “Look how big it’s become,” she said proudly. On Ashtami, visitors flock to the pandal for blessings and the delicious Ashtami bhog feast.
Tanishaa sees the entire Bollywood crowd as one big extended family. Celebrities, stars, and fans all join in, turning the festival into a joyful gathering. “Everyone who comes to Durga Puja feels like part of our world,” she noted.
For those new to the story, Debu Kaka was Deb Mukherjee, a well-known filmmaker and brother to the father of actresses Kajol and Rani Mukerji. He was also the proud dad of director Ayan Mukerji. Deb passed away on March 14 at age 83.
