Filmmaker and actress Tannishtha Chatterjee celebrated her close friend and National Award-winner Shabana Azmi’s 75th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post. Sharing a fun Holi photo where both are splashed in colors and grinning at the camera, Tannishtha called Shabana an "incredible woman." In her caption, she wrote, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!! to the most incredible woman I know @azmishabana18 …. I am missing your smashing 75th to give that tight hug… But I’ll see you soon when am back. I love you. Have a blast at the party tonight!"
Tannishtha, who’s currently in Busan for the Busan International Film Festival, couldn’t join the celebrations in person. Her directorial debut, Full Plate, is set for its world premiere there in 2025. This inspiring project stars Kirti Kulhari as a Muslim homemaker in Mumbai whose life flips upside down after her husband’s accident. She steps out to earn a living, sparking her husband’s insecurities and her own empowering transformation. The cast also features Sharib Hashmi, Monica Dogra, and Indraneil Sengupta.
What makes Full Plate even more special? Tannishtha finished directing it while battling stage 4 oligo metastatic cancer. She revealed her diagnosis last month, after shining in films like Parched and Angry Indian Goddesses. The film will also kick off the Indian Film Festival of Sydney from October 9 to 11, marking the event’s exciting return with three days of top Indian cinema.
Shabana Azmi, who shares a deep bond with Tannishtha, cheered her on just days ago on September 15. Posting photos with friends like Sandhya Mridul, Divya Dutta, and Urmila Matondkar, Shabana wrote, "To Tiger Tan as she heads to Busan International Film Festival with her directorial venture which she completed during her cancer treatment. You rock of Gibraltar." It’s a touching show of support between these two powerhouses in Indian cinema, highlighting friendship, resilience, and the magic of storytelling.
