Fox has officially ended The Great North after five seasons on its Sunday Animation Domination lineup. The animated comedy, which premiered in 2021, won’t return for a sixth season. The decision came just two weeks after season 5 wrapped.
Executive producers Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux‑Logelin and Loren Bouchard—who also helped create Bob’s Burgers—led the show’s creative team. Fox president Michael Thorn said the network is “so grateful” for the cast and crew’s hard work. “It’s hard to say goodbye, but we’ll always remember the five hilarious seasons The Great North added to Animation Domination,” he added.
The cancellation is part of Fox’s “bubble” slate that ended in 2025, which also saw shows like Rescue HI‑Surf, Accused, Alert: Missing Persons Unit and The Cleaning Lady leave the schedule. Accused may return in special event form, but the others are officially gone.
Earlier in May, Rescue HI‑Surf was cut, and by June Alert and The Cleaning Lady were canceled after their latest seasons finished. The Great North was the final show to be axed from the 2025 lineup.
Fans noticed the show was excluded from Fox’s April mega‑deal with 20th TV Animation, which extended The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers and American Dad! for another four years. With American Dad! back on the Fox chart and new titles like Krapopolis and Grimsburg already renewing, the network’s animated block was packed. The Great North simply didn’t fit.
Created by the Molyneux sisters and Regular Show alum Minty Lewis, the series follows the quirky Tobin family in Alaska. Single dad Beef (Nick Offerman) keeps his wild crew together as his daughter Judy (Jenny Slate) pursues her artistic dreams—from fishing boats to malls. The pack also includes Wolf (Will Forte), his wife Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), middle brother Ham (Paul Rust) and 10‑year‑old philosopher Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Judy’s mother is absent, but she finds guidance from boss Alyson (Megan Mullally) and the ever‑present Alanis Morissette, who voices herself.
Though it flew under the radar for a while, The Great North built a loyal fan base and became Fox’s first new animated hit since Bob’s Burgers. Five seasons of Northern humor and family hijinks have earned it a spot in the Animation Domination hall of fame.
