India’s Parliament has a fresh lineup for its key Standing Committee on Home Affairs, with the Lok Sabha Secretariat announcing the changes starting September 26, 2025. One big name joining the group is Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, expanding her influence into national security and internal affairs.
This committee handles some of the toughest issues in the country, like internal security, law and order, border management, disaster response, and oversight of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Members dive deep into bills, check budgets, and keep government actions in check for better governance.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s addition looks like a smart play by the Congress party to boost her role in Parliament. With her roots in grassroots work and keen political eye, she’s set to shake things up on topics like civil liberties, women’s safety, and how states coordinate with the center. Her voice could spark livelier debates and draw more eyes to the committee’s work, strengthening democratic checks on India’s internal matters.
The panel includes 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, mixing seasoned politicians with fresh faces. From the Lok Sabha, you’ll see figures like industrialist-turned-MP Naveen Jindal, NCP’s Supriya Sule, DMK’s Dayanidhi Maran, and Punjab’s Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. On the Rajya Sabha side, heavyweights such as Ajay Maken, Derek O’Brien, Sanjay Raut, and Sanjay Singh bring diverse views to the table.
Leading the charge as chairperson is Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, a veteran lawmaker who aims for fair reviews and solid policy tweaks. This mix of experience and energy positions the committee to tackle hot-button challenges, from rising cybercrime and terrorism to border disputes and building stronger disaster resilience.
