Mumbai, Oct 16 – Renowned playback star Udit Narayan is set to star in the new season of Indian Idol – “Yaadon Ki Playlist”. The star surprised fans by saying that, for the first time ever, a father will step into his son’s shoes on the show.
The question remains whether he will fill a judge’s seat or take on a hosting role. Narayan told reporters in Mumbai, “I’ve always been thrilled to see people excited about having me on the judges’ panel. This season, I’m trying something completely different. For years I’ve appeared as a guest and have always been showered with affection, but this time it’s the other way around – my son Aditya is taking the spotlight.”
Narayan’s son, Aditya, shared the enthusiasm. “I’m excited about this and I hope the audience will love it too.”
The judging lineup also includes Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani and Badshah.
Udit Narayan’s career milestones are plentiful. He began his playback journey in 1980 with Mohammed Rafi and later recorded with Kishore Kumar. His breakthrough came with the 1988 hit “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak”. Over three decades he sang thousands of songs across Hindi, Nepali and other languages. Notable tracks include “Pehla Nasha”, “Papa Kehte Hai”, “Dil To Pagal Hai”, “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai”, “Chand Chhupa Badal Mein”, “Neend Churayi Meri”, “Mitwa”, “Hum Tum”, “Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hai Dil Se” and “Tumse Milke Dil Ka”.
His talent earned him four National Film Awards and he was honored with India’s Padma Shri in 2009 and Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution to arts and culture.
