India, Kenya discuss strengthening cooperation in healthcare sector

On Tuesday in Nairobi, Indian High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika visited Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, to talk about ways the two countries can tighten their ties in healthcare—ranging from pharmaceuticals and drug manufacturing to medical equipment and skill development. The High Commission reiterated that India is a “trusted and long‑standing partner” of Kenya in the health and pharmaceutical fields, adding that thousands of Kenyans travel to India each year for medical tourism. The conversation underscored a shared pledge to make healthcare more accessible and affordable.

Later that day, the High Commissioner met with Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, to advance the rollout of current projects and explore deeper cooperation in ICT, emerging technologies, digital skilling, and innovation, including collaborations between the two nations’ startup ecosystems. The Kenyan delegation’s recent visit to India—led by Mercy Wanjau—was praised as a positive step toward enhanced digital cooperation.

Kabogo emphasized Kenya’s ambition to strengthen its role as a regional technology leader, noting the need to revamp the national broadcaster KBC and to build stronger ICT infrastructure. He highlighted discussions on cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and strategies to boost socio‑economic growth through better digital services for the public.
