In Kamrup, Assam, on September 23, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju joined hundreds of fans to pay their final respects to beloved singer Zubeen Garg at a crematorium in Kamarkuchi village, Sonapur. The popular Assamese artist’s mortal remains arrived there for the last rites, drawing a massive crowd eager for one final glimpse during the darshan.
A solemn gun salute honored Zubeen Garg as his body reached the site. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the ceremony, working closely with local authorities and the singer’s family to oversee every detail. Heartfelt visuals captured the moment when pallbearers carried Zubeen Garg’s remains for the tributes, with the CM himself offering a touching homage to the late star.
Earlier that morning, a second post-mortem on Zubeen Garg’s body wrapped up at Guwahati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). His remains then returned to the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Assam. Fans and locals had been calling for this local examination, especially after the initial one took place in Singapore, where Zubeen Garg had traveled for the Northeast India Festival.
Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita even spoke with Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, about the demands for an Assam-based post-mortem, as CM Sarma shared with reporters. After Singapore, the singer’s body flew to Delhi before heading back home to Assam for these final funeral rites. Zubeen Garg’s sudden death has left a huge void in the music world, and his farewell brought together a grieving community in full force.
