Varun Dhawan keeps his father David Dhawan’s Bollywood legacy alive while building his own star power as a top actor. He credits his dad’s tough love and guidance for shaping his career both on screen and behind the scenes.
In a fresh chat with in Mumbai, Varun opened up about how David always pushed him to carve out his unique path in the film world. The actor shared a fun story from his early days interning on one of his father’s movie sets in Delhi.
“I remember suggesting how a shot should go, but that wasn’t Dad’s vision,” Varun said. “I was young and out of my league. He scolded me right there, saying in Hindi, ‘Jab tum apni film banaoge ya jab ek mukaam pe pahunch jaaoge tab karlena ye sab’—meaning, ‘When you make your own film or reach that level, you can call the shots. But this is my set, so we do it my way.'”
Varun admitted he felt a bit down at the time, but looking back, he knows his father was spot on. “Of course, I was disappointed then, but he was right,” he added. “Now, our talks about creative ideas are super productive.”
Fans have more to look forward to from Varun. He’s busy promoting his upcoming Bollywood film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The comedy stars Janhvi Kapoor, Rohit Saraf, and Sanya Malhotra alongside him. It hits theaters on October 2.
