Actor Vishal Jethwa says his latest film Homebound has made India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category, and he’s already looking ahead to new opportunities. He told that he never “looks at movies through the lens of language.” “A good story can travel anywhere,” he said, adding that he wants to juggle projects in Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema.
Jethwa wants to be seen as an Indian actor, not just a “Hindi” or “Bollywood” name. “I’m a storyteller who wants to connect with people across languages and cultures,” he said. “Today’s audiences care about how a film makes them feel, not where it comes from.” His goal is to bring honest performances that resonate everywhere.
Homebound, directed by National Award winner Neeraj Ghaywan, follows two childhood friends from a North Indian village who dream of becoming police officers. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter alongside Jethwa. Production company Dharma Productions wrapped the shoot in 2024, and the movie earned a nine‑minute standing ovation at its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Jethwa began his acting career in 2013 with the lead role in the TV series Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap. He moved on to mythological and drama roles, playing characters such as Bali in Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman and a terrorist in Diya Aur Baati Hum. He entered Hindi cinema in 2019, first appearing as an antagonist in Mardaani 2 starring Rani Mukerji.
