Actor Vishal has officially announced that he will direct his next movie, Magudam. The news came with a new film poster that Vishal shared on social media to celebrate the Diwali festival.
In his post, Vishal revealed that the decision to step behind the camera wasn’t made out of pressure. Instead, he said, it was a responsibility toward the audience, the producers, and the film itself. “I want to make sure the movie stands strong for everyone who’s invested in it,” he wrote. “Taking the director’s seat is the right way to give the film the care it deserves.” He thanked fans for their support and wished everyone a happy Diwali.
The story of Vishal taking over from the original director, Ravi Arasu, has been circulating in the industry. According to insiders, a creative clash during early shoots led Vishal to assume directorial duties. Video clips of Vishal giving instructions to the crew on set surfaced on social media, adding to the speculation.
Magudam is Vishal’s 35th film and the 99th release from Super Good Films, a studio known for launching many hit Tamil movies. The cast includes Dushara Vijayan, who has already finished her scenes, and Anjali. Production started on August 1 in Chennai, following a grand launch ceremony in July.
The technical crew is a strong lineup familiar with Vishal. Cinematographer Richard M. Nathan, who worked with him on the hit Madha Gaja Raja, joins again. Music is composed by G V Prakash Kumar, and editor NB Srikanth is on board. The film also features new art direction by Durairaj and costume design by Vasuki Bhaskar.
Magudam is now in its final shooting stages, with the last schedule taking place in Chennai’s TR Gardens after wrapping up the third schedule in Ooty. Fans of Tamil cinema can look forward to a fresh take from Vishal, who not only stars in the film but also directs it—a first for him. Stay tuned for more updates and the film’s release date.
