Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya shares sweet Instagram shoutout after his Dadasaheb Phalke award win
Vismaya Mohanlal, the daughter of Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal, just celebrated her dad’s big moment with a heartfelt social media post. The 22-year-old, who’s gearing up for her acting debut in the upcoming film Thudakam, congratulated Mohanlal on receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.
On Instagram, Vismaya – whom her father affectionately calls Maya – wrote: "Congratulations Acha! We’re all so so proud of you for the incredible artist you are and for the incredible human you are. #dadasahebphalkeaward." Fans quickly filled the comments with love for the father-daughter duo, highlighting Mohanlal’s massive influence in Indian cinema.
This comes as Vismaya steps into the spotlight herself. Back in July, Mohanlal announced her debut on social media, sharing his excitement for her first project. He posted: "Dear Mayakutty, may your ‘Thudakkam’ be just the first step in a lifelong love affair with cinema. #Thudakkam. The film’s production house, Aashirvad Cinemas, also welcomed Vismaya to the industry with a warm message on X (formerly Twitter). Before acting, Vismaya made her mark as a writer. She already published a book called Grains of Stardust, showing her creative side early on. Now, she’s following in the footsteps of her brother, Pranav Mohanlal, who’s become a reliable star in Malayalam films with hits under his belt.
Thudakam marks the directorial effort of Jude Anthany Joseph, known for his crowd-pleasing successes like Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and 2018 – the latter even represented India at the 2024 Oscars. Set for release later this year, the movie has fans buzzing about Vismaya’s entry into Malayalam cinema alongside her legendary dad.
