Hollywood star Walton Goggins has been signed for an upcoming action movie called Painter. The film, a high‑energy thriller, will spotlight the veteran’s rugged charisma as the father‑figure in a story about a young hero’s fight to rescue her kidnapped dad.
Painter is written by Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick, and gives a fresh twist on the action‑hero genre. Kolstad’s script follows a tough, combat‑ready woman—played by Amber Midthunder, who first made waves in Predator: Prey—as she uses her skills to save her father. Goggins will bring depth and intensity to the father’s role, while Director Garrett Warren—known as a long‑time stunt coordinator—takes the helm for his first feature film.
James Cameron will serve as the project’s executive producer, while FilmNation’s Infrared Pictures partners with J.R. Young of 20th Century for the production. Drew Simon of Infrared stated, “Painter will launch a new action franchise and turn Midthunder into the next Sarah Connor.” The film is poised to become a staple of blockbuster action cinema.
Earlier, the role of the daughter was offered to “Reacher” star Alan Ritchson, but he had to drop out because of scheduling conflicts.
Goggins also has other projects lined up. He’s set to voice a character in an animated sci‑fi comedy called Harry and the Mutant Mid‑Century Furniture, directed by Michael Skolnick. The film imagines 1962 after atomic testing produces bizarre, living furniture. Goggins co‑stars with Ron Funches, Chris Parnell, and Shondrella Avery, playing a 10‑year‑old boy named Harry who must rally allies like a wise recliner and a spirited ottoman to survive a strange new world.
These announcements underscore Hollywood’s steady flow of action‑packed stories and a new generation of talented actors ready to lead them into the spotlight.
