Raja Raghuvanshu murder case: Police names Sonam, Raj as accused in 790-page chargesheet

Meghalaya Police file chargesheet in high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case

The Meghalaya Police have taken a big step forward in solving the shocking murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore. They have filed a detailed chargesheet against five people, including Raja’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha.

The 790-page chargesheet was submitted to a local court in Sohra (Cherrapunji). All five accused are now in judicial custody, meaning they are waiting for their court hearings.

According to police, the accused include Sonam, Raj, and three others – Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Vishal Singh Chauhan. Police say these individuals helped Sonam murder Raja during their honeymoon on May 23. The case made headlines earlier this year when Raja and Sonam went missing in Meghalaya just hours after checking out of a homestay.

Police have charged them under sections of Indian law related to murder, hiding evidence, and conspiracy. The East Khasi Hills SP, Vivek Syiem, mentioned that additional charges might be filed against three more people once forensic reports come in. These include property dealer Silome James, building owner Lokendra Tomar (where Sonam stayed after the crime), and security guard Balbir Ahirbar. They were earlier arrested for trying to hide evidence but are out on bail now.

The investigation revealed that Raja and Sonam, who married on May 11, disappeared while on their honeymoon. Later, police found Raja’s body on June 2. Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh and surrendered to police on June 8, confessing to the murder on June 11. Police also arrested Raj and the others from different states.

Sonam’s family, including her brother Govind, has cut all ties with her and expressed support for Raja’s family. They stand with the fight for justice and hope for a fair resolution.

This case has shocked many and highlights the importance of justice in such high-profile crimes. The police are continuing their investigation as more details emerge.
