Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan recently grabbed headlines for winning the National Award for Best Actor, but fans are now buzzing about a hilarious story from his school days. Back in grade 11, the star once pulled off a fake epileptic fit to skip class with his buddies.
The tale surfaced during a fun chat on the 2002 talk show “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,” hosted by the late Farooq Shaikh. Shah Rukh Khan showed up with his old pals from Rajendra Nagar in New Delhi, where he grew up. One friend shared the wild memory with Shaikh: A new teacher had just joined their class at St. Columba’s School, so the group hatched a plan to ditch it. “Shah Rukh walked in and started acting out an epileptic fit—it was spot on,” the friend said. “This happened in class 11.”
Another buddy remembered being shocked as SRK even “frogged at the mouth.” They didn’t know his trick, but it worked like magic. Four of them hoisted him up and carried him out of the classroom. From there, they vanished for the next three hours. One friend, Vikas, even swiped the teacher’s shoe as a cheeky souvenir before they all bolted.
Shah Rukh Khan, who earned his school’s top honor, the Sword of Honour, at St. Columba’s, just grinned and admitted, “We pulled off a lot of stunts like that back then.”
This lighthearted throwback comes right after Shah Rukh Khan’s big win on September 23 at the 71st National Film Awards in Delhi. He took home the Best Actor trophy for his standout performance in the 2023 blockbuster “Jawan,” directed by Atlee. In the action-packed film, Shah Rukh Khan plays dual roles as a father and son lookalikes. He stars alongside Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi. The story follows Azad, a tough jailer in a women’s prison who turns vigilante, teaming up with inmates to expose corruption across India.
The National Film Awards, run by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), use a solid jury setup. Regional panels feed into a central committee led by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur—no, wait, the article says Ashutosh Gowariker—for the feature films category. It’s a huge nod to Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the spotlight after “Jawan” smashed box office records.
