Mumbai-based TV star Samridhii Shukla, who shines as Abhira Sharma Poddar in the hit show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, recently got real about the money struggles her family went through when she was a kid. The actress, known for her chemistry with co-star Rohit Purohit in Rajan Shahi’s popular family drama, shared how those tough times shaped her smart approach to finances.
Growing up, Samridhii never bugged her parents for toys or extras. "I knew things were tight at home," she explained. "My dad was the only one bringing in money, so I wanted to help out early. I started earning as a kid to pay for my studies and ease his load." Any cash she made back then went straight into an account her mom handled. She only touched it for real needs like emergencies or school fees.
Her first taste of earning came super young—at just five or six. "I went to an audition, didn’t land the role, but they gave me ₹200 for travel," Samridhii recalled with a smile. "Even as a little kid, I got what that money meant. It taught me its real value."
Now a pro in the unpredictable world of acting, Samridhii calls money "energy" and swears by financial discipline to stay grounded. "Our lives as actors are full of ups and downs—we never know if a show will run or when the next paycheck hits," she said. "Financial independence lets me keep my lifestyle going even during breaks. That’s why I save and invest big time. Our parents didn’t have all this financial know-how, but we do now. Start an SIP or PPF—it’s a game-changer for your future."
She also opened up about today’s crazy work culture, which hits everyone hard, not just TV stars. "My sister slaves away at a marketing agency, pulling all-nighters just like me," Samridhii noted. "Mumbai’s expensive—whether you’re in a corporate job or the entertainment industry, the pressure never stops. Add social media doomscrolling, and time slips away. But hey, I absolutely love what I do, long hours and all."
