Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, is battling a surge in dengue cases, with 52 new infections reported in just one day. Out of these, 33 came from rural areas and 19 from urban spots, according to the District Health Office. Local media highlighted that Bhara Kahu saw the most, with 17 cases.
In response to the rising dengue outbreak, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal has ramped up efforts to fight back. He ordered officials to boost fogging operations right away. The minister also pushed for dedicated wards in hospitals just for dengue patients, making sure all health centers have enough medicines, beds, and diagnostic tools.
During a key meeting he led, the team reviewed the dengue situation in Islamabad and nearby areas. They discussed current case numbers and ongoing control measures. Kamal stressed the importance of stronger dengue prevention campaigns. He noted that the government is acting fast to stop the spread, especially after heavy rains boosted mosquito numbers.
Over in Rawalpindi, things are heating up too, with 16 fresh dengue cases reported on Monday. Right now, 59 patients from the area are getting care at Holy Family Hospital in Satellite Town. Another four are at Benazir Bhutto Hospital on Murree Road, and five more at District Headquarters Hospital in Raja Bazaar.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema called a meeting to check on anti-dengue steps in the district. Health officials shared updates on larva detection and cleanup efforts in the hardest-hit neighborhoods.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that spreads through bites from infected Aedes mosquitoes. It’s common in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, especially in cities and suburbs, as the World Health Organization explains. Stopping it relies on controlling mosquitoes—think eliminating standing water where they breed. There’s no special cure for dengue, but catching it early and getting good medical help can greatly reduce risks from severe cases. Stay vigilant this season to keep dengue cases in Pakistan under control.
