Mumbai, Dec 5 (LatestNewsX) – The latest episode of Sania Mirza’s podcast, “Serving It Up With Sania,” spotlights comedian and storyteller Zakir Khan. He brings an unexpected mix of warmth, honesty, and depth to the studio as he teams up with Sania for a spirited pickleball match, then pulls back the curtain on a more intimate conversation.
Zakir, famed for blending sharp humor with genuine emotion, opens up about the figure who shaped him most: his grandfather, the legendary sarangi player Ustad Moinuddin Khan. In a touching moment, he remarks that the “best phase” of his life was simply being around his grandfather.
Reflecting on his grandfather’s presence, Zakir says, “My grandfather played the sarangi, a very niche instrument. People on the streets didn’t always know who he was, but the respect he commanded was extraordinary. Wherever he went, it felt like everyone around him became flowers drawn to him.”
He then delved into the legacy lesson he learned: “First of all, it’s the legacy of your work. No matter what you do, it stays with you. I learnt that from him—that your work travels ahead of you, and your character carries it further.”
During the chat, Zakir recalled asking his grandfather why he kept returning to Kolkata despite local indifference: “I once asked him why he kept returning to Kolkata even though people didn’t appreciate his work there. He told me, ‘Go to the cities where people like you. But also go to the cities where people don’t. That’s where you learn something. That’s where the challenge lies.’”
The episode beautifully captures Zakir’s thoughtful side, giving listeners a peek into the values and influences that shape his creative spirit. Few people know, but Zakir Khan is also a skilled sitar player and often shares videos of his sessions on social media.
