Zayn Malik is making waves again with fresh music, and this time it’s tied to one of his favorite hobbies—gaming! The former One Direction star has dropped an exciting new track called “Break Free,” created specially for the upcoming video game Borderlands 4.

Teaming up with 2K and Gearbox Software, Zayn recorded the song to capture the game’s wild energy. Borderlands 4 launches on September 19, taking players to a brand-new planet called Kairos. You’ll step into the shoes of four unique Vault Hunters, battling enemies and dodging obstacles to uncover a hidden treasure. What makes it epic? Each hunter has special powers, and with billions of weapon combos, the action-packed gameplay lets you smash foes in endless creative ways.

Zayn, who’s been keeping a low profile outside his own music projects, couldn’t resist this gig. The “Dusk Till Dawn” hitmaker loves gaming when he’s chilling with his daughter or not in the studio. “When I’m not working or with my daughter, my usual place is in front of the console, gaming with my friends back home in the UK,” he shared in an interview with Variety.

He’s a big Borderlands fan already, so saying yes was easy. “I’ve played Borderlands before, so when I was asked to collaborate on the music, it was a no-brainer,” Zayn added.

The game itself hit PlayStation and Xbox on September 12, but you’ll have to wait until the 19th to hear “Break Free” in action. Zayn’s keeping details under wraps, except to say it was a blast experimenting with fresh sounds.

This comes after his well-loved 2024 album, Room Under the Stairs, which he recorded in his cozy home studio in rural Pennsylvania. It brought a more intimate, stripped-back vibe that fans raved about. For now, “Break Free” might be the only new Zayn music this year—there’s no word on a follow-up album, and his 2025 schedule looks quiet with no big appearances planned.

If you’re into Zayn Malik songs, Borderlands game, or just cool celebrity collabs, keep an eye out for this one!
