In Guwahati, Assam, the body of beloved singer Zubeen Garg arrived at the crematorium in Kamarkuchi village today for his final rites. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma showed up to oversee the ceremonies, working closely with local authorities and Garg’s family.
Heartbreaking visuals captured the moment as pallbearers carried Garg’s remains for one last round of tributes. Hundreds of fans and locals flocked to the site, sharing tears and memories of the iconic Assamese artist who touched millions with his music.
In a moving video, CM Sarma paid his respects by bowing in prayer, honoring Garg’s huge impact on Indian music. The singer will receive full state honors and rest on a 10-bigha plot right next to the National Highway.
This morning, doctors at Guwahati Medical College & Hospital wrapped up a second post-mortem on Garg’s body. After that, his remains returned to the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex for more mourning.
Fans had pushed hard for this local post-mortem, especially since the first one happened in Singapore. Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita even talked it over with Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, the chief minister told reporters.
Sarma has shared touching tributes to Garg’s legacy across social media. He also promised to set up screens at public spots so more people in Assam can join in saying goodbye to their star.
