New Delhi, Dec 9 (LatestNewsX) – Anupriya Patel, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, informed Parliament that in 2025 a staggering 4.5 crore people were screened for tuberculosis across the nation. More than 22.6 lakh new cases were identified, she reported.
In a detailed response to the Rajya Sabha, Patel explained how the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, operating under the National Health Mission (NHM), is being rolled out nationwide.
During the first ten months of 2025, 4.5 crore individuals underwent TB testing, revealing 22,64,704 new infections. Of those cases identified between January and October, 19,23,538 patients received successful treatment.
The minister also highlighted long‑term trends outlined in the World Health Organization’s Global TB Report 2025, noting a decline in TB incidence and mortality over the past decade. In 2015, the country recorded 31,40,000 new cases, with only 53 % of patients treated and an estimated 3,75,000 deaths. By 2024, the figures had fallen to 27,10,000 cases and 3,00,000 deaths, while successful treatment coverage had risen to 92 %.
Patel further described the new strategies being deployed under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. These include identifying high‑risk groups, using chest X‑rays for screening, administering early Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) to all suspected cases, initiating prompt and tailored treatment, providing nutritional support, and delivering preventive therapy to household contacts and other vulnerable populations.
