Hyderabad, Nov 14 – After the BRS lost the Jubilee Hills seat in Telangana’s by‑election, former BRS leader K. Kavitha fired back on social media. The loss, which handed the seat to the Congress party, dealt a heavy blow to BRS after it fell out of power in 2023 and performed poorly in last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Kavitha, the daughter of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), criticized her party’s handling of the vote after BRS failed to keep the Assembly seat opened by the death of MLA Maganti Gopinath. She posted a scathing message on X, calling the defeat a “karma” moment for the party.
She left BRS last September after a suspension for “anti‑party activities.” In the same month, she quit her seat in the Legislative Council. Now, after a four‑month walk across Telangana, Kavitha is building a new political group called Telangana Jagruthi.
“We’re still talking to leaders and planning our next steps,” she said at a rally in Hanamkonda. She added she would keep focusing on people’s issues now, but plans to re‑enter active politics later.
Kavitha said the way BRS handled her suspension felt humiliating and she would not return. “If KCR calls me father, I’ll answer him. But there’s no question of going back to BRS,” she clarified.
The split began when Kavitha publicly accused her cousin, former minister T. Harish Rao, and former MP Santosh Kumar of corruption. Those accusations led to her suspension, which she used to warn KCR and his brother, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, that they might also face similar backlash from party insiders.
The Jubilee Hills result shows that BRS still struggles to regain its footing in Telangana politics. For now, Kavitha remains a polarizing figure, working to reshape her political future outside the BRS banner.
